What is the differnce between Intel and AMD processors?

For gaming itself, the trend is leaving the CPU behind and making the Graphics card do most if not all the work that makes games realistic, hince the price and size of graphics cards today... At the same time, not just the CPU is making the differance in speeds, the motherboard is another thing to look at in your specs. Reading up and knowing what chipsets are working well and which aren't makes a differance. Via chipsets aren't doing that great nowdays for the dual core AM2. Nvidia is a leader in chipsets, but AMD has been making their own northbridge and are doing very well with compliance with software and operating systems thus far...
